What brought you to the asset-based finance and leasing industry? 

Funny enough, like most people in the industry, it was completely random; an ad in the newspaper.  I was hired as a receptionist and sales coordinator at a small leasing company that brokered deals.  Later, I was headhunted by a larger equipment finance company, I entertained it, and the rest is history.  I’ve tried dabbling in other industries, but my knowledge and passion for the industry always drive me back.

 

What is your greatest achievement? 

A few years ago, I took on the challenging opportunity of leading and rebuilding an underperforming department. Coming in with little knowledge of the department or its nuances, it was a little nerve-wracking, to say the least. I accepted the challenge, and it was the best thing I did for my career. I began rebuilding the team by reviewing workflows, conducting resource planning, gap analysis, and strategic planning direction and growth. I am proud to say, since taking this on, managers were hired, hiring gaps filled, a client services system was launched, a call centre team was positioned, and an additional support team was created. Right now, the team is demonstrating positive growth, client experience levels show significant improvement, and we are a top-performing group! 

 

What is your favourite part of your job?

Leading employees while supporting them and watching them achieve their goals. I have a number of employees I’ve developed into strong performers who have moved into different roles and continue to excel. I always like to remember that employee growth happens when you build, support, and challenge their development.  I’ve been fortunate to have a few leaders who took me under their wing and challenged me – and now it’s my turn to give back.

 

What motivates you?

I am intrinsically motivated, although I do love a challenge! I am a highly competitive person, be it at work, in sports, or in games. Success motivates me, I create long-term goals and strive to achieve them. Completed goals are crossed off, and new ones are added, I am always growing, always moving! 

 

What is your number one travel destination, and why? 

I enjoy spending time with my family and being a hockey and baseball mom to my 2 stepchildren. When I can step away, I enjoy travelling, taking in new views, accepting new hiking challenges, and visiting the beach.
