Taylor Murphy, Manager, Client Success, Addison Fleet

What brought you to the asset-backed finance and leasing industry?

During Covid-19, I was laid off from my dealership and decided that this would be my chance to explore new career opportunities. I came across a job posting for a Client Success Representative at Addison Fleet and decided to apply, “What’s the worst that could happen? I don’t know what “Fleet” entails, but at least I’m familiar with the Automotive Industry, right?” I’ve always loved a new challenge and believed this would be a great opportunity to further my knowledge in the industry. Fast forward four and half years, with great mentorship from our upper management and amazing support from my fellow colleagues, I am now the Manager of the Client Success team here at Addison Fleet.

What do you like about working in this industry?

Meeting and conversing with new people every day. I get the chance to build relationships with vendors across Canada. It’s great when you can pick up the phone and have a good conversation with someone. Building relationships with vendors is really one of my favourite parts about my job. I also like that no day is EVER the same. Of course, we want daily operations to run smoothly, but I like the curveballs that get thrown at you every once and a while. It keeps my team on their toes and really shows why we’re the best in the business!

How do you overcome the challenges you face at work?

It certainly helps when you have a great team supporting you! At Addison Fleet, we truly are like a family. When one person is down, your team pulls you back up. Each department is readily available for any issues that may arise, which in turn helps overcome challenges efficiently for out clients. I think it’s important to stay positive and not panic, that will never make a situation better. I always remind myself that one way or another, there is always a solution.

What does it mean to you to be a leader, and how do you lead others in your organization?

Being a leader means creating an environment where both our clients and team members feel supported, heard, and empowered. I try and lead by example, especially during high-pressure situations. When challenges arise, I’m right there with my team—whether that means jumping in to resolve a client issue or helping re-prioritize workloads.

I also make it a priority to mentor team members by providing regular feedback, and by creating growth opportunities. When my team feels confident, capable, and connected, it directly reflects in our clients overall experience.

What would be your dream role in 5-10 years when you are closer to becoming a veteran of the industry?

Well, firstly, in the next 5 years I’d like to try my hand at Account Management. I think it’s important to understand that side of the business in its entirety to better my overall knowledge. However, in 10+ years, I’d love to be in a senior leadership role where I’m not just managing a team but helping shape the bigger picture. I want to be involved in making decisions that improve how we work, how we serve our clients, and how we grow as a company. I don’t want to lose the connection to day-to-day challenges either, staying grounded in what’s really happening on the front lines is important to me.

What is your number one travel destination, and why?

I’ve never been, but I’m hoping to plan a trip with my dad next year to Manchester, England. He was born in England and came over to Canada with my grandparents when he was 8. I’d love to be given a personal tour of where my dad grew up, see his old home and meet relatives who I only have a “Facebook” relationship with. It would definitely be a trip to remember!
