As I reflect on the past twelve months, I am pleased by the remarkable achievements and milestones we've reached together as an industry. 2023 has been a significant year for the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association, and I am delighted to share some of the highlights with you.

Quebec City Conference – A Celebration of 50 Years

Our annual conference in Quebec City was a momentous occasion that brought together nearly 400 delegates from across Canada and around the world. It was a celebration of the CFLA's 50th Anniversary, and the event was nothing short of spectacular. We had the privilege of hosting renowned Canadian journalist Peter Mansbridge, who delivered an insightful keynote, prompting a standing ovation. There was live entertainment at all the networking events culminating in the Gala, which included a modern twist on traditional Quebecois musical entertainment with the world-renowned Painchaud family, befitting the grandeur of our 50-year journey.

Collective Impact, Canadian Prosperity – A New Brand and Logo

One of the defining moments of 2023 was the launch of our new brand and logo ⇒, celebrating the CFLA's 50th anniversary. Our new brand, with the slogan "Collective Impact, Canadian Prosperity," reflects our commitment to advancing our industry collectively and its significant contribution to the prosperity of Canada. This brand is not just a visual identity but a symbol of our shared vision and ambition.

Advocacy & Driving Swift Action on Stolen Vehicles

Advocacy remains at the heart of our mission, and this year, the CFLA held a successful Hill Day in Ottawa ⇒. We engaged in over 20 meetings with members of parliament, senators, and political staff to discuss our three priority issues: combating illegal vehicle theft and exports, encouraging more capital investment in Canada, and seeking exemptions for electric vehicles from the luxury tax.

I am immensely proud to report that our advocacy work has yielded significant results this year. The CFLA held nearly 100 media appearances to shed light on the issue of stolen vehicles ⇒. Our collective efforts prompted swift action from the Ontario government and police agencies across Canada. This accomplishment underscores our collective voice's power and ability to drive meaningful change.

Looking Ahead to 2024

As we turn the page on 2023, we are filled with enthusiasm for what lies ahead. We are committed to providing you with more professional development opportunities, including the upcoming launch of a Canadian version of the well-regarded US-based Certified Lease & Finance Professional (CLFP) designation. Our continued digitization initiatives will make our services more accessible, and we will continue to innovate in ways that benefit all our members.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the unwavering support of our dedicated member companies, the guidance of our Board of Directors, and the hard work of our committee volunteers. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all of you for your trust in us as we work tirelessly to elevate our industry.

As the year comes to a close, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for the holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in person at the many events we have planned for 2024.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Rothe
