What brought you to the asset-based finance and leasing industry?
I was brought into the asset-based financing and leasing industry by the hunger of a young ex-bank entrepreneur who believed he could deliver best-in-class service to his clients. I was an unproven fresh grad who was given the opportunity to build a unique tech solutions team within a fresh organization in a wildly growing Canadian industry: how could I say no?
What do you like about working in this industry?
The best thing about working in this industry is the amount of untapped potential available to us. I have a genuine sense of optimism regarding the amount of value that my team can create in our market niche. The industry we support and bring together through our software is hungry for a modern community platform, and we’re privileged to be able to build it for them.
What does it mean to you to be a leader, and how do you lead others in your organization?
A leader is one who is unafraid to go first, fail fast, and use what they learn to direct the efforts of the team. I lead others in my organization by listening to them closely and iterating enough solutions to find a way forward regardless of the problem we are facing.
What is a common misconception about the asset-based finance and leasing industry?
A common misconception of the asset-based finance and leasing industry is that it is a monolith of large, antiquated organizations. In truth, there are tons of fresh new players and teams in the industry who are ready to create efficiencies for their clients and deliver a great financing experience.
What do you like to do when you're not behind your desk?
My favourite things to do outside work include weightlifting, reading new books, learning about emerging trends in technology, and spending time with my family.
